Title I is a federally-funded supplemental reading program. It is part of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act established by President Johnson. It was also revised by the No Child Left Behind Act.
How does Title I help parents?
Title I supports the families of its students by encouraging parent involvement. This may be achieved by providing the following services : parent guides, a parent help library, monthly newsletters, book lists for home reading, vocabulary lists, recommended websites, information on local and state resources, 3 parent/teacher conferences, interim/progress reports, participation in the I.A.T. process, Ohio Achievement Test guides and information, home skills practice sheets and guides, etc.
Important things for Parents to do!
-
Make sure your child reads for a minimum of 15 minutes per day. Reading is a skill that is developed through consistent daily practice.
- Have your child practice his/her written language skills. Please refer to the parent guides for help.
- Encourage your child to be responsible for his/her behavior in school.
- Encourage your child to be responsible for his/her assignments, books, materials, etc.
