Yes, it is official. I am older than dirt! For 36 years, I have been a teacher atJames A. Garfield Elementary. Over the years, I have taught Special Education, Third Grade, Second Grade, Gifted Education and Fourth Grade. I received my Bachelor of Science in Education in 1971 with certification in Elementary Education and Special Education from KentStateUniversity. In 1977, I earned a Master of Education in Early Childhood Education and later returned to receive certification in Gifted Education. I still enjoy taking classes and workshops to keep fresh and to bring new ideas into my classroom.
I have lived in the area for 33 years. I raised my children in Hiram where we indulged our love of animals with horses, goats, chickens, rabbits, birds, gerbils, dogs, cats and one iguana. My daughter, Melanie, continues to love animals but lives in the 'big city' of WashingtonDC where she is employed by the government though she has two enormous cats. My son,Joe, is a recent graduate of Dickinson College who is currently a theatrical interpreter at Colonial Williamsburg. I now live in Garrettsville in a house on Center Street where I can indulge my love of gardening, crafts, cooking and yes, animals. I have two cats and one very spoiled pug named MacDuff.
My Mission Statement
My mission is to help each child develop his or her potential through a positive learning environment, a variety of experiences and constant encouragement and guidance. Through parent, child, and teacher teamwork and communication, each student will have the framework of support to stimulate their intellect, creativity and sense of responsibility.
