Home Ec. I

 

This course consists of a study of the six areas of Home Economics:  (1) home management, family economics, and consumer buying; (2) personal, family, and community relations; (3) child care and development: (4) foods, nutrition, and health; (5) clothing, textiles, and related art: (6) housing, home furnishings, and equipment.  Additional expenses for sewing projects will be needed.  There is a $15.00 fee for this class.  1 credit  Grades 1-11   12th grade with permission.

 

 



 Gourmet Foods I, II

   Gourmet Foods I, and II stress nutrition and teach the basics in food preparation. They are both semester courses and the students will do individual demonstrations and research along with food labs.  There is a $25.00 fee for each of the classes. 1/2 credit for each class.  Grades 11-12.



 Gourmet Foods III

   It is recommended to take Gourmet Foods I and II before Gourmet Foods III.  There is a $25.00 fee for this class.  1/2 credit for this class. This course stresses the study of food cultures from other countries with an emphasis on power point demonstrations and individual research.  Grades 11-12.





 

Foods for Fitness 

Foods for Fitness is a semester course designed for 11th and 12th grade students witha basic foods background.  The couse includes a study of:  (1) nutrition and fitness; (2) preparation of meals; (3) purchasing/planning of foods;(4) exercise-modification.  There is a $25 .00 fee for this course.  1/2 credit for this class.

 

Child Development

This course involves the study of parenting skills, genetics and birth defects, prenatal development, and contemporary roles for men and women along with problem situations for children.  Grades 10-12

 

Home Ec. Club

 

  This club is for all students, not just student that are taking home arts classes.  The club promotes leadership skills and emphases is placed on working with the community.  Some of the activities that the club has done in the past include:  Making and selling black and gold fleece neck scarves, bake sale during parent conferences, providing Christmas presents for a needy family in the school district, visiting a nursing home, helping to teach at Hattie Larlham, filling Easter baskets for a family in the school district, going ice skating, having a Christmas party with the Spanish Club at the local bowling alley, and a fun picnic at the end of the year at the community park.



Freshmen Class Advisor

The role of Freshmen Class Advisor is to be a leader  and advisor for the students.  The purpose is for the Freshmen class to raise money to use when they are Juniors for their prom.  The advisor will supervise fund raisers and class functions.
