Course Description: Students will uncover American History from the first global age through the reconstruction following the American Civil War. Special emphasis will be placed on the Colonization of North America, the American Revolution, building a new nation, the Civil War, and Reconstruction. Students will also discover how economic. Social, governmental, and geographical issues all played important roles in the forming of the new nation.
Materials: Students are required tobring certain materials with them everyday, including their Textbook, notebook, pen or pencil, folder, and any assignments due for that particular class.
Homework: All work assigned is expected to be completed and turned in by the assigned date. All late work will be marked down one letter grade for each day it is late. After three days, any late work will become a zero. Remember, it is the responsibilty of the student to inquire about missed work during an absense. Detentions may be granted in order to provide students with the opportunity complete missing and/or late work.
Projects: Throughout the school year, students will be assigned several projects pertaining to information that is being studied at that time. Students will be expected to complete these assignments to the levels specified by the project's rubric. These projects will generally be weighted closely to that of a test, but the exact point totals will vary.
Grading Policy: All grades will be based on a points system. These points will be collected from items such as Homework, Tests, Projects, Quizzes, Midterm/Final Exam, Group Activities, or any other assigned work. Students are encouraged to keep a running total of their point totals in their social studies folder in order to keep an accurate indicator of their classroom success as the school year moves on.
