STEM Activity - Paper Roller Coasters

Students in Miss Wallack's Advanced Physical Science Class have been working on designing roller coasters.  This project is to investigate the relationship between potential and kinetic energy.

The requirements were to design a fun and exiting roller coaster using just paper and tape.  Students were expected to explain the physics behind each hill, twist, and curve to the amusement park manager (teacher/principal) and a panel of roller coaster enthusiasts (students).  The presentation had to include data on types of energy as well as speed and velocity.  They must also convince the panel why their coaster should be chosen to be included in the amusement park.

Finally, the coaster had to hold up for three trial runs to be sure it is sturdy and safe. #1JAG
