JAG Students Excel at Speedcubing Competition

Congratulations to Preston Hatcher, Finn Frato-Sweeney, Owen Herron, and Garet Warnick who all represented James A. Garfield Elementary at the Howland Winter Speedcubing Competition at Howland Middle School yesterday. Each of the boys competed in two events: the traditional 3 x 3 Rubik's Cube, and the 2 x 2 Cube. The boys competed against 70 other people of all ages in Northeast Ohio. In each competition, the boys were given five chances to solve the Rubik’s Cube and timed to see how long it took. Their average times to solve the puzzles are below:

3x3 Rubik’s Cube
Finn Frato-Sweeney — 36 seconds
Preston Hatcher — 41 seconds
Garet Warnick — 1 minute 12 seconds
Owen Herron — 1 minute 27 seconds

2x2 Cube
Finn Frato-Sweeney — 6 seconds
Preston Hatcher — 10 seconds
Owen Herron — 11 seconds
Garet Warnick — 19 seconds

The boys are hoping to help host a regional competition of their own at Garfield in the Fall. The competitions are officially sanctioned by the World Cubing Association (www.worldcubingassociation.org).
