Most people are well aware of the success of current and former Garfield athletes, but many people do not realize that Garfield High School is home to one of the top young figure skaters in the country! Isabella Obreza has been competing in figure skating since she was four years old and has recently been honored by U.S. Figure Skating with their Gold level Graduating Senior Award.

Isabella competes and trains at the Kent State Ice Arena as a member of the Kent State Skating Club. Besides the Graduating Senior Award she has won over 200 medals in various competitions over the years. Obreza’s talents were evident at an early age when she earned a gold medal at her first competitive competition. Her competitive career has taking her to events in such places as Kent, Strongsville, Michigan and as far away as Nashville. She has also recently earned the distinction of Gold Medalist in her recent field test. Isabella is quick to point out that her favorite moves are spins, she is actually considered the “Spin Queen” by her coaches and teammates.

Isabella is also a talented student, she is a member of the National Honor Society and carries a 4.0 GPA. Her academic and figure skating career are both far from over. She will be attending Kent State University in the fall where she will remain a member of the Kent State Skating Club.
