Garfield's new online grade book

Due to advancements in technology the James A. Garfield Schools have moved to a new grade book system called Progress Book.  This tool has many enhanced features for parents, teachers and students.

Trainings have already been conducted with our teaching and secretarial staff so the new grade book can be utilized immediately.

Some of the features of the new tool are:

Real-time Attendance

Attendance is taken by each homeroom teacher using Progress Book.  This allows us to automate our absence reporting system.  Calls and text messages will be utilized to notify parents if their child is reported absent from school. Attendance and calls will be made for any unexcused absence on the following daily schedule:

Building

Automated Call

Middle School

8:00am

High School

Grade and Assignment Alerts

Parents will have the ability to set alerts for missing assignments or when their child receives a desired score. These alerts can be customized by each parent.

Lunch Counts

Lunch counts at the elementary are now being digitized and sent directly to cafeteria staff.

Parent and Student Access

Activation codes and instructions will be mailed to parents with interim reports for the first quarter the week of October 2nd.

If you have any questions regarding setting up your account or if you do not receive an activation code by October 6, 2017 please contact Mrs. Mulhern (jmulhern@jagschools.org) or Mr. Lysiak (tlysiak@jagschools.org) and we can assist you in getting your account set up.

Classroom Communication

One thing the new system does not do is allow classroom teachers to send mass communications out to the parents or students in their classrooms. Many of our teachers will be using Remind.com to communicate directly with students and parents.  If your child’s teacher sends home a communication asking you to participate in the Remind tool, please support them in their communication efforts.

We look forward to providing you high levels of communication regarding your child’s academic progress and encourage you to create your account and access Progress Book frequently.
