James A. Garfield Local Schools is proud to celebrate Ms. Peggy Shay, our outstanding fifth grade science teacher, as the recipient of the Jursa Family’s Crash A Class Educator Grant.
Ms. Shay brings science to life for her students through hands-on, inquiry-driven learning that sparks curiosity and creativity every single day. From innovative experiments to real-world applications, her classroom is a place where students don’t just learn science—they experience it.
One shining example of her work is a hydroponic lettuce-growing project where students cultivate produce that is later used in school lunches, connecting science, agriculture, and community in a meaningful way. Her dedication often goes above and beyond, ensuring students have access to high-quality learning experiences that make a lasting impact.
