As we welcomed students back today, a common question circulating in our schools and community has been, "How cold does it need to be for a 'Cold Day?"
There are times when temperatures become unsafe for students to wait outside or travel to school. JAG Schools will call a Cold Day when:
Air temperature is below –10°F
ORSustained wind chills reach –15°F or colder
How We Decide:
We review hourly forecasts on multiple trusted weather sites.
We reference National Weather Service wind chill charts to determine real-feel safety conditions.
Student safety — especially during bus arrival and walking times — is always our top priority.
If conditions meet these thresholds, school will be closed.
