James A. Garfield Local Schools is proud to announce that four outstanding student-athletes have qualified for the OHSAA State Track & Field Championships, which will be held June 3-4 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of The Ohio State University in Columbus.
Representing the G-Men on Ohio's biggest track and field stage will be:
Olivia Kuchenbecker (Sophomore)
– 300-meter hurdles
Elise Edwards (Senior)
– Discus
Lina Kaufman (Freshman)
– 1600-meter run and 3200-meter run
Conner Hunt (Senior)
– Seated 100-meter, 400-meter, and 800-meter races
Each of these athletes has demonstrated remarkable dedication, perseverance, and competitive excellence throughout the season to earn the opportunity to compete among the state's best.
For sophomore Olivia Kuchenbecker, qualifying in the 300-meter hurdles is the result of countless hours of training and a relentless commitment to improvement. Senior Elise Edwards will represent Garfield in the discus, capping off an outstanding high school track and field career. Freshman Lina Kaufman has already established herself as one of the area's premier distance runners, qualifying in both the 1600-meter and 3200-meter races in her first high school season.
The state championships will also mark a special moment for senior Conner Hunt, who will compete for the final time in his remarkable high school career. Conner enters the state meet as the Ohio State Record Holder and a three-time state champion in each of his three events—the seated 100-meter, 400-meter, and 800-meter races. His accomplishments have made him one of the most decorated athletes in Garfield track and field history and an inspiration to athletes throughout Ohio.
We are incredibly proud of Olivia, Elise, Lina, and Conner. Qualifying for the state championships is an achievement that reflects tremendous hard work, sacrifice, and determination. These student-athletes represent the very best of Garfield and have made our entire community proud.
The entire JAG Community wishes these four athletes the very best as they compete in Columbus and represent the Blue and Gold on the state's biggest stage.
Go G-Men!
