On a clear, late-summer evening Monday, August 18, the Garfield varsity girls soccer team kicked off their season at home against Crestview .
Crestview struck first, with Isabella Novak (#19) scoring 22 minutes into the game. Garfield answered just before halftime, when Sophia Dahlen (#26) buried a header with under a minute left. “I feel so good right now!” Dahlen said as the team headed off the field tied 1–1.
The second half saw Garfield goalie Olivia Zicari stay busy, turning away multiple shots from Crestview. The G-Men nearly took the lead on several chances but couldn’t convert. With 14 minutes to play, Becca Evans (#28) broke through to give Garfield a 2–1 advantage.
Crestview refused to back down. With just 3:33 remaining, Sydni Kiehl (#2) tied the game at 2–2. Despite the late drama, neither team found the net again, and the match ended in a draw at 7:44 p.m.
