Report Card

James A. Garfield Local Schools has earned the highest possible rating of 5 Stars in the Progress Component of the 2025-26 Ohio School Report Card.

The Progress Component can be one of the more complicated pieces of the state report card, but the idea behind it is actually pretty simple.

Rather than asking only, “Did students score proficient on the state test?” Progress asks another important question:

How much did our students grow?

Ohio looks at students’ previous state-test performance and compares their current results to the amount of growth that would normally be expected from students with similar achievement histories.

A 3-star rating means students met expected growth. A 4-star rating means there is significant evidence students exceeded expected growth.

Five stars means there is significant evidence that JAG students exceeded growth expectations by an even larger amount.

That is something worth celebrating.

This measure is especially important because students begin each school year at different places academically. Progress looks beyond a single score and helps show whether students are moving forward from where they started.

The state also looks at multiple years of growth data when determining the rating, with the most recent year receiving the greatest weight. That makes this a measure of sustained academic growth, not simply one strong testing cycle.

Our 5-star rating is a tremendous reflection of the work happening every day in our classrooms. Our teachers are identifying student needs, adjusting instruction, providing additional support and challenging students to continue growing. Our students are putting in the work, and our families continue to support that learning at home.

We are incredibly proud of our students and staff.

This is another important mile marker on our journey toward student success.
