On Friday, March 27th, James A. Garfield Middle School proudly hosted its first-ever full-building Career Day, bringing together both 7th and 8th grade students for a day dedicated to exploration, inspiration, and future planning.

Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to hear directly from a wide range of professionals, gaining valuable insight into careers across many industries.

8th Grade Career Speakers
Our 8th grade students participated in sessions with an impressive lineup of guest speakers representing careers such as business professionals, realtors, web developers, physicians, police officers, nurses, toy designers, dentists, detectives, business owners, tattoo artists, insurance agents, attorneys, human resources specialists, and various roles within education. These sessions provided students with real-world perspectives on career pathways, education requirements, and the skills needed to succeed.

7th Grade Career Exploration
Our 7th grade students began their day with engaging presentations from a diverse group of speakers, including a singer/songwriter, sports reporter, photographer, EPA worker, wildlife specialist, and natural resources professional. In the afternoon, students participated in interactive, hands-on group activities centered around career exploration, helping them begin to connect their interests and strengths to future opportunities.

This expanded, building-wide event marks an exciting step forward in preparing our students for life beyond middle school. It also aligns with our district’s vision of increasing student engagement in meaningful, real-world learning experiences.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Mrs. Scirocco, Mrs. Law, the Super Sevens team, and all of our guest speakers and staff members who helped make this day such a success.

Looking ahead, Garfield Middle School is excited to continue building on this momentum. We are currently developing a new course offering for next school year called Career Connections, which will be part of the 7th grade elective wheel. This course will focus on career exploration and education, helping students better understand their interests, strengths, and potential career pathways at an earlier stage.

At Garfield Middle School, we remain committed to providing opportunities that inspire our students, expand their horizons, and prepare them for success in school and beyond.

Go G-Men!
