Creativity and science collided in explosive fashion during our recent 8th grade volcano project at James A. Garfield Middle School! Students spent time studying volcanoes, tectonic plate movement, and Earth’s changing surface before designing and building their own volcano models using a wide variety of creative materials and designs.

The project culminated in an epic outdoor eruption celebration as students brought their volcanoes to life in the backyard with colorful lava flows and explosive reactions. The hands-on experience connected directly to Ohio’s 8th grade science standards focused on Earth systems, geologic processes, and the forces that shape our planet.

Beyond the science content, the project also showcased two of our JAG Core Values — Engagement and Creativity. Students demonstrated outstanding effort throughout the research, design, and construction process while using imagination and problem-solving skills to create unique volcano displays.

Great job to our 8th grade scientists for making learning both memorable and explosive.
Go G-Men!
